Yew’ll never guess who popped into the café

Jay’s Café owner and chef, Jay Smith had a VIP visit when Prime Minister, Tony Blair attended the opening of the Yew Tree Children’s Centre in Dovecot, Liverpool.

Dovecot is an area of high deprivation and disadvantage, and a priority for growth and employment initiatives. The Children’s Centre houses a GP surgery as well as a range of community services, including Jay’s Café.

The café was set up with support from Unique Improvements and acts as a social enterprise. As well as providing cheap nutritious food for young families, Jay offers monthly healthy eating promotions and provides a training place for the local catering college. A quarter of the café’s profits are invested in community initiatives within the children’s centre.
