GP Commissioning goes live in Cambridgeshire

GP Commissioning is a hot subject at the moment. The government has paused to consider NHS reforms and GP commissioning, but health professionals in Cambridgeshire are pressing ahead with GP commissioning, as Jack Groves of Cambridge-news.co.uk reports in the post http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Health-and-Beauty/Health-News/GP-commissioning-goes-ahead-11052011.htm

Cambridgeshire launched a GP Commissioning Senate, a group of 8 family doctors who will oversee the transition to GP commissioning and ensure doctors have the skills to manage the huge commissioning budget.

Out of the 78 GP surgeries in Cambridgeshire, just 4 have yet to sign up to a GP consortium, which means Cambridgeshire is leading the way, but other counties are likely to follow.

It seems therefore that the pause is at government level, but on the ground in the counties the move towards GP commissioning consortia has been underway for some time and all the signs at present are this only looks to continue, despite opposition to the concept.

Unique Improvements commissioning training courses, which are accredited by the award winning Teesside University, have been developed to help GP’s to take on GP commissioning. We aim to provide the skills and education GP’s need to make GP commissioning a success. Courses can be provided in venues close to you and have recently been provided across the UK, most recently in Westminster, Cambridgeshire and Liverpool with more dates available.
